The Soft Bigotry of Low Expectations
so we are getting close to the first debate, the most critical one for Kerry to show he can hold his own and that Bush is simply out of his league. And the Republicans are at it again:
"With the approach of the presidential debates, Bush campaign officials have furiously tried to portray rival John Kerry as a modern day Cicero, unequalled in his command of political rhetoric." Palm Beach Post, Sept. 24th.This Mac I am using makes it difficult to link, so I will just fire down the address and you can go for it yourself: www.palmbeachpost.com/news/content/shared/news/politics/stories/09/26debates.html It is an interesting dissection of the debates for a Palm Beach Post article, with many references to the Weld confrontations. I did gain respect for Kerry's debating skills during the primary campaign, but that was against a sunny Edwards, a too-blunt Dean, inexperienced Clark, and who can forget the laugh-a-minute Sharpton. As President campaigning on keeping the country safe, I don't think Bush can continue to benefit from his riding out the low expectation wave to safety. If Kerry can call him on a few facts and get him away from talking points to reality, he can score the needed victory. This year there will be no sighing. The election must turn on the CONSEQUENCES of Bush's incompetence in running the country, dire consequences for the future. I think there are high expectations of both candidates, since voters are having a difficult time finding one to proactively support. Can Comeback Kerry rise to this challenge?
